Nursing science provides a theoretical and scientific basis to the practice of nursing performed by nurses, public health nurses, and midwives. Nursing science aims to improve the quality of nursing practice. Gifu College of Nursing educates nursing professionals while formulating the academic basis of nursing science.
As a prefectural institute, Gifu College of Nursing helps formulate the universal academic basis of nursing science by educating ideal nursing professionals who can contribute to the health and welfare of people in Gifu prefecture. The faculty members of this college are highly motivated and have already begun educational and research activities from April 2000.
In recent years, the people of Japan have demanded a high quality of life based on their affluence. When it comes to health care, their needs are particularly diverse. It is therefore necessary for nursing professionals to have not only the knowledge and skills for such care but also a sense of humanity achieved by studying broad range of other disciplinary areas.
The core of our curriculum is to foster the goal-oriented awareness which students have at admission. Professional subjects of nursing begin to be intensively taught at the very first semester. Immediately after admission, the students are required to consider the social responsibility of the nursing profession. In their junior and senior years, the students receive our unique education, which focuses on "cultivating one's self," through the selection of various courses in many liberal arts and science subjects.
Gifu College of Nursing also seeks to establish a high quality of nursing in this prefecture. Improving the practice of nursing will be achieved by conducting collaborative nursing research between nursing professionals at practice sites and faculty members.
The vision of Gifu College of Nursing will be fully actualized only after the college has enrolled four years of undergraduate students and has established a graduate school. It will take time to realize our vision; however, we are determined to expend our finest effort.
